Nominations list for the 2021 BET awards has dropped with no Ghanaians making the cut this time

Ghanaian artists have come up short in international awards once again.

After trailing behind at the Grammy Awards where two Nigerians, Burna Boy and Wizkid, bagged awards with no Ghanaian to receive any nominations, they have now been completely left out of the 2021 BET nominations list released this evening.

In what used to a customary position with Sarkodie and Stonebwoy already bagging the coveted award for Best International Act for Africa, now no representative are on the list showing the state to which Ghanaian music has dilapidated.

Burna Boy and Wizkid once again represented Nigeria in the nominations list.

“We are back and excited to bring culture’s biggest night, the 2021 BET Awards, safely back to Los Angeles to celebrate this year’s incredible roster of nominees,” Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, said in a statement.

“We broke ground as one of the first official awards shows to move forward during the global pandemic and we are ready to take our pioneer status to the next level with the return of an audience to celebrate the best and brightest creative minds in the entertainment industry.”

After a virtual awards show in 2020, the BET Awards will return to a live event with an audience on June 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
