Samini prevails in the GIMPA SRC election

The Students Representative Council (SRC) at GIMPA has elected dancehall artist Emmanuel Andrews Samini as its president for 2022–2023.

The renowned Dancehall musician, who is currently enrolled in GIMPA's Business Administration program, received 307 votes to defeat rival Theophilus Quartey's 211 votes to win the contest.

Theophilus Quartey enrolled at GIMPA in 2019 and is a level 300 finance student.

Mabel Mensah will now serve as Samini's vice president for the GIMPA SRC.

Samini announced in a tweet a little over two weeks ago that he would run for SRC President in the upcoming elections.

In a Twitter Space conversation, Samini declared, "I am running for the GIMPA SRC Presidency. I will be conducting my vetting tomorrow and maybe I will become the next SRC President of GIMPA."

The musician already discussed his plans for the students, should he receive the go-ahead, with GTV on Friday, June 17.

"As an artist and entertainer, asking for money to support their initiatives is what I am used to doing.

I am someone who is not overly vocal on social media, and I know what I am capable of if I take charge, put myself in harm's way, or summon the strength to serve and contribute to how we can raise more.

"I know everything has to do with funding, everything has to do with budget, and sometimes I see the budget that they claim would be required for SRC Week to occur but it still hasn't, all due to budgetary restraint.

"I have kept my ear to the ground and have observed as well, and I know that pupils need a lot of things.

However, because it is a privately owned organization, it can only make a profit or a loss. On the GTV Breakfast Show, he added, "We would need beneficent Institution to join on board to support them.
