Davis Mac-Iyalla, a fighter for LGBTQ rights in Nigeria, was appointed a traditional chief over the weekend by a village in Ghana's central region.

He was appointed the Yamonransa Nkusukum area's Amankorehen, commonly known as the development chief.

According to the Graphic Online website, the role is granted to individuals, including foreigners, who are seen to be able to advocate initiatives that could hasten regional growth.

It continues that there was a significant police presence during the ceremony.

During the event, he briefly slipped from a palanquin while it was being ridden down a street.
