A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Obed Yao Asamoah, has stated categorically that former President John Dramani Mahama has not done any proper social and infrastructure development project in the Volta Region.

The development, he stressed has argued some disgruntled members and supporters of the NDC to vote against the NDC in the 2020 general elections although the region is the NDC's electoral World Bank.
The former Attorney General stated that the NDC lost Hohoe Parliamentary seat to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 election because of the poor performance of former President Mahama in the Volta Region.
In the 2020 election, the Hohoe NPP parliamentary candidate, Mr. John Peter Amewu has made unprecedented history when he wrestled the Hohoe seat from the NDC with a total vote of 26,952 represented 55.26%, while the NDC candidate in the person of Madam Margaret Kweku got 21,821, represented 44.74%.
This means that out of the eighteen (18) constituencies in the Volta Region, the NDC has won seventeen (17) seats, while the NPP won only one to break the record of the Volta Region tagged as the NDC Work Bank.
This development did not got down well with Dr Asamoah, compiling him to make the outburst against former President Dramani Mahama.
Dr Asamoah pointed out that former President Dramani Mahama did nothing for the Volta Region, which is considered the stronghold of the party, when he was in power.
According to him, Mahama’s failure to establish tangible development projects in the Volta Region resulted in Voltarians voting against the NDC.
Dr. Asamoah added that dissatisfaction with the performance of Mahama by the people was evident by the reduced percentage of votes he got in the region compared to his predecessors, the late John Evans Atta Mills and the late Jerry John Rawlings.
“Vote region is supposed to be the World Bank of the NDC. What exactly did Mahama do for the Volta Region?
“Remember in the last election, he did not get the kind of votes, Jerry and the others were getting, 80, 90 percent (in presidential elections),” he said.
