Residents of Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency have taken a swipe at their Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, for not fulfilling any of his campaign promises.

The residents, many of who include motorists and students in Agape, Santa-Maria, A-Lang, Kwashiebu, Antie Aku and Sowutuom, all the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, also lashed out at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, Mr. Mohammed Bashiru.

They described both President Akufo-Addo and Mr Bashiru as "inventors of lies, fake and empty promise-givers."

The constituents lamented that they were disappointed in Dr. Kissi, who doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation in Parliament, for his non-performance, saying that all the access roads in the constituency have "become very deplorable or death-traps" and were affecting social and economic activities in the thirteen (13) electoral areas in the municipality.

"We thought Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi was coming to lobby so we can have developmental projects and programmes in our constituency, but unfortunately, there is nothing to show," they said.

“...in fact, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi is worse than our former MP who is the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mrs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey," they noted.

“We voted massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Dr Kissi, and President Akufo-Addo because they promised us good roads in Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, but after voting massively for the party and the MP, we the residents have been taken for granted.”

Interacting with Soireenews.com, the residents complained bitterly about their poor road networks in the various communities within the municipality.

They intimated that the bad roads in the area were adversely affecting security.

Against this background, they threatened to embark on a “naked demo” (demonstration).

"We are going to use our intended demonstration to block roads in the communities linking to the capital, Accra, to express our displeasure till government addresses our concerns," the residents hinted.

“We are tired of assurances from our MCE, MP and government. We will fight till we win,” they vowed.

They also expressed worry about businesses which have collapsed due to the deplorable road network, adding that tro-tro and taxi drivers reluctantly ply the Kwashiebu to Santa-Maria, A-Lang-Anyaa market roads because of their state.

“Every week, we record not at least two robbery cases because of the road network. We are calling on the government to address our grievances or they will face our wrath," they warned.

They stated that the MCE should help fix the deplorable roads in the municipality to gain the support of the residents in his administration.

According to them, the municipality generates enough revenue but was denied development and lamented that taxi and commercial drivers spend all their money on spare parts due to the bad state of the road network.

They explained that criminals have also taken advantage of the situation to attack residents who go about their normal duties

They pointed out that the welfare of Unit Committee members should be a concern to the MCE as development at the local level begins within the Unit Committee, and reiterated the call to fix the roads within the municipality.

Other residents also expressed similar sentiments to Soireenews.com, and charged the MCE and the MP to move on the ground, engage strategic stakeholders, traditional leaders, traders, commercial drivers, politicians and religious members to address the problem.

The residents noted that periodic engagement with the people would help the MCE to appreciate the task on the ground, mobilise the people to support him execute it, cautioning that “but if he stays in the office, he will fail.”

In an interview with the Assembly member of Santa-Maria Electoral Area, Nana Kwesi Boandwoh, he described the road network in his electoral area as very bad and called on the government to fix the roads.

"I can state that all the major access roads in my area are in poor state, although the government through the minister of the ministry of roads highways has visited some parts of the constituency and promised to award the construction of the roads to contractors," Nana Kwesi Boandwoh told this news outlet in an interview on Monday, June 25, 2023.
