‘Mummy, I love you, we’re going to die’: Nightclub fire in Spain kills 13

Early on Sunday morning, a fire started in the Fonda Milagros nightclub, also known as La Fonda.

As customers tried to leave the jam-packed dancefloors, it later spread to nearby clubs, according to the police.

According to local media, the fatalities included family members who were commemorating a birthday.

One of the birthday party guests, who was at the club with his cousins and aunt, claimed that when he returned home in the middle of the mayhem, he was informed that one of his cousins had stayed. This was according to the La Verdad de Murcia newspaper.

If the cousin was one of the verified fatalities is unclear.

All fatalities were at La Fonda, according to the police, who also said 14 individuals were still missing. They issued a warning that more people would likely die.

The fire is thought to have begun at 06:00 (04:00 GMT) at the club, which is situated in Murcia's Atalayas neighborhood.

It has been nearly 15 hours, and the cause is still a mystery. However, Murcia's mayor, Jose Ballesta, told reporters earlier in the day that the club's first floor was where the fire started.

The roof of La Fonda fell, according to Diego Seral of the national police, making it difficult to find victims and determine what happened.

According to the La Verdad de Murcia newspaper, a 28-year-old lady called her mother when the fire broke out and said, "Mummy, I love you, we're going to die."

Her date and some friends from the neighbouring town of Caravaca de la Cruz had joined her on the night out. It's unclear if she lived or die

The woman's father, Jairo, told the media, "They went because there are no nightclubs in Caravaca." She had gone there a second time.

Four patients are being treated for smoke inhalation in hospitals, and affected individuals are receiving counseling at a nearby sports facility.

Jose Ballesta, the mayor of Murcia, declared, "We are devastated." In Murcia, he has proclaimed three days of mourning.

This nightclub fire is thought to be the worst to occur in the nation in more than 30 years. 43 persons perished in a Zaragoza building fire in 1990.
