MTN Ghana has rubbished claims circulating on social media that they are going to review and block some accounts of Mobile Money (MOMO) users who do not have voters’ ID cards

It could be recalled that there has been a report circulating on the various social media outlets that MTN is going to block people who registered their Mobile money accounts without using their own ID cards, thus from 2nd April.

The said voice continues by urging the general public to withdraw their monies from the MOMO wallet before 2nd April to avoid any blockage.

However, in an exclusive interview with SN24 News reporter, Nana Peprah, the Senior Manager of MTN at the Anti Money Laundering and Compliance Department of  Kumasi branch, Mr. Godwin Tamakloe, said Ghanaians should reject such claims since it is a mere fabrication to tarnish the image of the MTN.

“No one should panic. It is never true, MTN is not going to block anyone from using MOMO wallets. This is what some people are doing to discredit the MOMO service," the manager stated further.

He said MTN is rather advocating for people to update their numbers at any service center.

He revealed that the exercise is an approach of ensuring that everybody who is registered on MTN MOMO has his or her own account name.

He urges the general public not to rely on such fake information since MTN is never going to block anyone from using MTN MOMO even if it is not registered in your name.

He reiterated that MOMO users should visit any branch of MTN and update their accounts.
