An unknown driver has crashed a motor rider and his girlfriend on the Akyem Ettukrom stretch of the Koforidua to Bunso highway in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The rider died on the spot while the pillion girlfriend sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition receiving treatment currently at Hawa Memorial Hospital.

Additionally, both were found, the next morning, estimated over eight hours after the accident.

Information gathered indicates that the rider went to Kibi to pick his girlfriend to Osiem to commemorate Ohum festivities, but when they were returning back to Kibi around 10:00 pm, a hit and run driver crashed them at Aboriturom area at Akyem Ettukrom in the Fanteakwa South District.

The vehicle run over the rider, killing him instantly while the female pillion crashed into a nearby bush.

The surviving victim Margaret Kessewaa was rushed to Hawa Memorial Hospital after been in the bush for over 8 hours, while the body of her boyfriend, now the deceased was deposited at the morgue.

An eyewitness said, “they were knocked down by a car who failed to stop."

Sources have revealed that the driver went to the Bunso police station to report himself after the incident, but the families of both the rider and the pillion are yet to know the culprit.

Relatives of the deceased and the surviving lady (girlfriend) had made numerous attempts to see the driver at the police station but the police keep telling them the driver was behind bars, until Tuesday, July 27, 2021, when the police officially presented the medical report form to the surviving victim who is critically injured for the next action against the driver, a family member alleged.

They opined "for almost one week now, we have not set our eyes on the driver and the police keep on saying stories".

"Now the lady cannot afford the hospital bills and she is really in pain. Adding that we want the driver so that the insurance of the car can cover her bills. We don’t even know if the driver is still with the police or had been released".

"The police claiming they have had the driver in custody for one week now but had not even come to the hospital to take report neither had they even been there to ascertain the alive victim who can testify about what actually transpired before the crash of the motorbike", they stressed.

The Police Command has assured the families of both the deceased and the alive victim of justice but told them to calm down as investigations have already begun on the cause of the accident.
