President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP) government's failure to redeem their 2016 and 2020 electioneering campaign promises to improve the livelihoods of the residents in the mining-affected communities in the 8 regions across the country have landed them in big trouble.

The aggrieved residents in affected mining communities have penned a strong-worded press statement, expressing their disappointment in the New Patriotic Party government for the unfulfilled promises made to them prior to elections 2016 and 2020.

Speaking in an interview with Soireenews during this year's May Day celebration, the spokesperson for the residents highlighted the six failed promises made to the affected mining communities by President Nana Akufo-Addo during the 2016 and 2020 general elections.

According to him, during the 2016 electioneering campaign, President Akufo-Addo assured small scale miner's that his government will not collapse the job yet it has not been son.

He pointed out on July 15, 2016, that President Akufo Addo, the then flagbearer of NPP at Obuasi said his government will in accordance with the law, regularize and streamline the operations of "galamsey" mining across the country and transform it into small scale mining so that the youth in the mining community can find work to do.

He further reflected that President Akufo-Addo again speaking at Kyebi during the Ohum festival celebration emphasized that he is not against mining in the country.

He maintained that President Akufo-Addo at Manso prior to election 2020, reiterated the government's commitment to regularize the mining business instead of collapsing it.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government have failed the mining-affected communities and now using the soldiers to beat them and also destroyed their mining machines.

"We the residents in the mining-affected communities in this country were disappointed in the government for clamping down on small scale mining in the country after offering training for small scale miner's at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) Tarkwa, to formulate comprehensive mining policy to regulate the sector and resource miner's to carry their mandate effectively," he noted.
