Wolves’ Adama Traoré hadn’t scored in his last 32 Premier League games before netting twice against Man City today, last scoring against West Ham in September 2018.

Manchester City could not close the eight point gap created by Liverpool after their last-minute win against Leicester yesterday.

They have never lost a Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium without scoring for the first since March 2016 against Man Utd (0-1), with Manuel Pellegrini in charge.

Adama Traore struck twice late into the second half to record a second City defeat this season.

Joao Cancelo was handed his first Premier League start at left back as Pep Guardiola made three changes from the win at Everton last Saturday. David Silva and Sergio Aguero replaced Kevin De Bruyne, who was injured, and Gabriel Jesus.

Wolves made three changes from the win over Watford last weekend as Nuno Espirito Santo continued to rotate his squad with the addition of Europa League football to their schedule. Patrick Cutrone made his second Premier League start while Ruben Vinagre and Ruben Neves returned to the starting XI.

Diego Jota was the only major absentee for Wolves after being out with a toe injury.

Saiss registered his name on the injury list earlier in the game after he tried to run off in a race with Aguero down the right. Bennet took his place as Wolves managed the Citizens very well in the early minutes. They built their attack progressively and tight marked the City forwards.

A poor City defending nearly made them pay in the 5-minute. Moutinho flicked a ball through the heart of the City back four and Cutrone had a free run at goal. He only got Ederson to beat but never looked comfortable. He opened up his body but shanked an effort well wide.

Lots of possession came from City in and around the Wolves box but the crosses were coming in from too deep. Cancelo drifted one in but Patricio made an easy take.

Wolves should have been 2-0 up as at the 20-minute. Their long balls against City’s back two central defenders worked perfectly for them. A loose pass in midfield sent Jimenez in behind. He didn’t get the pace to get away but still fashioned a strike on goal from 15 yards. Fernandinho made a brave block but it dropped to Cutrone on the edge who sent it back towards goal with force but the Brazilian still on the ground headed it away.

Manchester City were restricted to hit their shots from range, which did not threaten Patricio much.

Zinchenko replaced Walker as Cancelo moved across to right-back and City continued to play a flat tempo. They found it difficult to create rhythm whiles Wolves embarked on a project of restricting space in midfield.

Mahrez was subbed for Bernardo Siva after been quiet in the match for a while. There was a bit more spark to City's passing. The two Silvas linked down the right and forced Wolves back. A cross was headed clear by Coady who put on a defensive masterclass.

David Silva nipped in front of Neves about 22 yards out and got clipped.  He caught it with pure quality as Patricio is rooted to the spot and the ball smacked back off the woodwork.

City begun finding their pace in the 69-minute as they kept the pressure on. Jesus sent a wonderful ball in behind for Cancelo who found the killer final ball. Bernardo Silva met it from eight yards but it struck Aguero almost on the goalline and somehow deflected it to safety.

Traore scored in the 80-minute after Wolves hit City on the break. Jimenez took advantage of some sloppy play from Cancelo and drove down the left. He slipped one across to Traore, who wasn't known for his finishing ability but he brilliantly slotted one into the net from 18 yards.

He doubled the visitors lead in additional time; a similar to the opener.

Jimenez accelerated away down the left and found the makeshift striker with a fine pass. Once again, the usually unpredictable Traore stayed cool and found the bottom corner.

City could not close the gap as Liverpool maintain their eight-point lead going into the International break.
