Nana Kwame Boakye, Krontihene of Adantia in Sunyani West Municipality of Bono Region, has urged the government to focus on psychiatric centres in the country.

He was speaking to Soiree News about an incident at Adantia on Monday in which a 43-year-old mentally deranged man, Kwaku Korang, allegedly butchered his 93-year-old mother.

Reacting to the incident, the Odikro disclosed that the psychiatric system in the country is not working and that is why these incidents are happening.

He recalled another incident in which another mentally deranged man, Kwaku Kyeremeh, of the same community attempted a similar action on his relatives.

“Such persons are common in the community and roam about uncontrollably with nothing being done about this worrying situation”.

The chief appealed to the government to pay more attention to psychiatric centres and provide them with the necessary logistics to enable them to function well.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness account indicated the mentally deranged Kwaku Korang had earlier attempted to rape her and her sister who had just given birth but had been stopped by the butchered mother.

Kwaku Korang was later found dead near the house where the incident happened but what led to his death is yet to be known.
