Liverpool and Manchester came from a goal down to win their respective games to keep the race on heat on top of the table.

Manchester City survived Southampton’s early scare at the Etihad as Sergio Aguero and Kyle Walker redeemed the Citizens from a third defeat of the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were facing a first defeat as at the 86-minute but after Andrew Robertson popped up hope, Sadio Mane made it evident for the Reds to keep on with their unbeaten record so far.

The top two teams of the Premier League were behind at half time for the first time since May 1, 2016.

Liverpool were down at the Villa Park after Trezeguet scored in the 21-minute.

McGinn cross from the left found Trezeguet unmarked at the far post. He controlled his finish, low under Alisson, and into the net.

At the Etihad, Ward Prowse scored on the 13-minute in their first meaningful attack as Redmond did well to work some space down the right and pick out Stuart Armstrong on the edge of the box.

His shot skid off this slick surface and wasn’t held tight by Ederson, the ball thudded out of his chest and into the path of James Ward-Prowse who lifted his shot from close range over the Brazilian.

The Reds haven won seven points already this season from losing positions came into the game stronger in the 27-minute and scored a goal that was ruled offside by the lines man. Fantastic pick out from Mane on the left to find Firmino far post, he tucked it home and VAR’s confirmation means the goal could not stand.

Sadio Mane was booked for diving by referee John Moss. The Senegalese felt the hand of Engels on his back, and went over, but Engels did tread on Mane's toe.

VAR took a quick look, but the decision stayed as not enough contact from Engels.

Elsewhere at the Etihad, Bernardo Silva started to have an influence on the game down the right, chopping inside the overworked Hojbjerg but the shot from David Silva was again blocked. A roar from the home fans as Armstrong threw his body at Gundogan's effort.

A decent opportunity fell the way of City to level the scores.

Bednarek did not take any chances as he tapped the ball out for a corner. It was again taken short by De Bruyne to Gundogan. The cross was angled in for Stones, with McCarthy caught in No Man's Land, but the centre-back could only head over.

The second half produced an intensed defending from oppositions against Liverpool and Manchester City as they strived to break the stalemate.

There was a bit of a let off for Mings and Villa in the 54-minute. The Englishman slided in early on Henderson and missed the ball. Henderson got in behind, had Salah and Mane to his left, but his square ball was straight to Engels to clear.

Sergio Aguero levelled for City in the 70-minute. The Southampton players were claiming the cross from Walker came after the ball went out but it was fizzed in from the right and Aguero fired his shot through the legs of McCarthy to make it his eighth goal in 13 games against Southampton.

Villa nearly finished Liverpool off. Nakamba played a long ball over the top for Trezeguet, as Alexander-Arnold failed to intercept. He fed Hourihane, through on goal at an angle, and he tried to centre it back for Wesley, but Van Dijk was there to clear.

Manchester City turned the game around in the 86-minute through Kyle Walker. McCarthy palmed Angelino’s cross out into the path of Kyle Walker. He was off balance but still managed to guide it into the net"

Liverpool responded a minute later with the equalizer. After knocking on the door repeatedly, Liverpool had their leveler through Andrew Robertson. Mane picked it up on the right and swung a quite brilliant ball to the back post for Robertson, who escaped El Ghazi.

Robertson flew in under the crossbar, headed goal wards, and it hit Heaton and end up in the roof of the net.

The Reds snatched the winner in additional time through Sadio Mane.

Trent's low, wicked corner met Mane, who stooped low and glanced a header into the far corner of the net past the reach of Heaton to maintain the six-point gap.
