Liberia's George Weah declares bid for re-election

George Weah, the president of Liberia, has declared his candidacy for reelection.

Mr. Weah announced that he will be urging Liberians to extend the mandate they given him six years ago in his annual state of the nation address.

October will be election month.

Throughout his tenure in power, Mr. Weah has been charged with economic mismanagement.

In response to charges of corruption, the United States placed sanctions on a number of senior Liberian officials, including Mr. Weah's chief of staff, last year.
