LGBTQ+ Bill: Let’s Applaud Speaker For Exhibiting Professionalism-Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai NDC Constituency Chairman
Speaker of Parliament Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin
The constituency chairman for the National Democratic Congress in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai constituency, Mr. Yaw Barimah, has stated that the Speaker of Parliament Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin deserves praise for his maturity and expertise in relation to the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values (LGBTQ+) Bill which is currently before the floor of parliament pending approval.
He suggested taking note of the bill, which had been in the queue for some decades under several governments, it could be considered that, Honourable Alban Bagbin’s willingness to fast track the passage is very encouraging and needs commendations.
However, Mr. Yaw Barimah complimented the lawmakers from the NDC and Npp for their objectivity in regard to the deliberations on the LGBTQ+, adding it depicts their seriousness to fast track the passage of the bill.
“Despite the fact that it has been long overdue, I would endorse the Speaker of Parliament and all of the lawmakers for giving consideration to the opinions of the majority of Ghanaians. We will never embrace homosexuality because it is not a part of our culture”, he added.
He also rebuked H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo for interfering in the Hon. Gyakye Quaison case, which is now before the Supreme Court.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need for the Supreme Court to discontinue Mr. Quaison’s case so that he can continue serving his constituents with the excellent performances.
“The people’s choice must be respected, it is apparent that Nana Addo wants to influence the matter that is currently before the Supreme court, per his recent public pronouncement, which will allow us to have our voice as well.
"I will plead with the Supreme court to discontinue Honourable Gyakye Quaison’s case, they should avoid comparing this current case to some previous instances which did not have any legal backing,” he stated
