Luis Suarez has finally lifted the lid on the treatment he had to endure before leaving Barcelona.

The Uruguayan joined Atletico Madrid during the transfer window after he was tagged ‘surplus to requirements’ by new coach, Ronald Koeman.

The 33-year old earlier agreed personal terms with Juventus to play in Italy but the deal somehow was abortive due to failure to obtain an EU passport hence his decision to switch to the Spanish capital.

Driving out of the Barcelona training grounds, the third-highest all-time scorer for Barcelona broke down in tears while driving away.

"Those days were very difficult. I cried because of what I was having to go through," Suarez told the Uruguay national team's official media after scoring in Thursday's 2-1 win over Chile in a World Cup qualifier.

"I didn't take the club's message that they were looking for a solution for me in order to mix things up very well. I was hurt most of all by the way they did things because one has to accept it when a cycle comes to an end."

The decision to axe the former Liverpool man was later condemned by Lionel Messi, the captain of the club on his Instagram page dubbing it as a ‘kick out’.

Messi disclosed that a player of Suarez calibre “deserved the goodbye for what you are: one of the most important players in the club's history, achieving important things both as a group and individually.”

He has featured in three games for the Rojablancos and scored twice with an assist to his name.
