The Constituency Chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region have broken silence by stating that they had equally received their shares of the money being donated by former President John Dramani Mahama for the transportation of the delegates of the party in the region in the just ended presidential and parliamentary primaries held on Saturday May 13, 2023.
According to them, it came to them as shock and surprise of the media reports attributed to the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Theophilus Tetteh Chaie who has accused his Regional Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore of embezzling and diverting of Dramani Mahama's cash for delegates.
In this regard, the various constituency chairmen in the region stated categorically that they have received the money from Mr Ashie Moore and equally shared to the beneficiary delegates per the calculation list of delegates from the office of former President Dramani Mahama.
It would be recalled that Mr. Tetteh Chaie accused Mr. Ashie Moore for conniving with the Greater Accra Regional Treasurer of the party, Mr. Mohammed Norga and succeeded in withdrawing the monies paid by Mr Dramani Mahama into the Greater Accra Regional official bank account of the NDC without the knowledge of the entire regional executives committee of the party.
According to Mr. Chaie, the chairman was solely in charge of the disbursement of the funds, meant for the transportation of delegates in the region during the party’s primaries.
His outburst, he said has followed concerns raised by some delegates that they have not received the money Mr. Mahama promised.
Mr. Mahama’s team ahead of the NDC’s presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, promised delegates an amount of GH¢40 as transport money after voting.
Mr Tetteh Chaie asserted that Mr. Ashie Moore did the disbursement of the funds and must be held accountable for any issues associated with it.
“Well, these are monies for delegates, and there was a channel for distribution. What I’m saying is that the resources were not distributed by the regional treasurer. It was the regional chairman who did the disbursement.
The resources were put into our account, and it happened that the resources were withdrawn. And it is the party’s regional chairman who disbursed the money, so the regional executives do not hold that responsibility.
In effect, it should be the treasurer who should be held responsible. But since it is not the treasurer who distributed the money, why must we suffer for the disbursement of the money?” the NDC’s Secretary in the Greater Accra Region questioned.
The beef of Mr.Tetteh Chaie stemmed from the fact that he found it extremely difficult to comprehend why the NDC functionaries and some concerned Ghanaians including the delegates and agents were blaming the entire Greater Accra Executives Committee of the party for the wrongfully and questionable disbursement of such monies to the delegates and agents by Mr. Ashie Moore.
But setting the records straight on the issue which went viral on social and local media platforms, the Constituency Chairmen of the NDC in the Greater Accra Region jumped into the defence of Mr. Ashie Moore, saying that former has a capacity as the Greater Accra Regional Campaign Chairman of JDM to disburse the money without involving the entire Greater Accra Regional Executives of the party.
They revealed that looking at the pieces of documentary evidence of the various offices of the constituencies in the region, Mr. Ashie Moore has disbursed the money to the chairmen for onwards distributions to the beneficiary delegates.
"You must leave Chairman Ashie Moore alone, he has done anything wrong in disbursements of the money meant for the transportation of delegates in the region during the party’s primaries to constituency chairmen to be given to the delegates. It is not true that Mr. Ashie Moore has also pocketed and diverted the cash of the delegates.
"What we are saying was that the records of how we the chairmen together with our treasurers or secretaries had received the money and signed our signatures were there for Tetteh Chaie and his followers to go and see," the chairmen of the constituencies of the NDC in the region reaffirmed.
Speaking in an interview on Citi Television and Radio Gold monitored by Soireenews.com, the Greater Accra Regional Constituency Chairmen of the NDC on behalf of their Public Relations Officer (PRO), who doubles as the NDC Constituency Chairman for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Mr Bismark Aborbi-Ayittet called on Tetteh Chaie to, immediately render unqualified apology to Mr Ashie Moore for wrongly accusing him of not handing the cash of the President Mahama meant for delegates
.
He argued that the allegation was a calculated attempts by Tetteh Chaie and his followers to soil the hard won reputation of Mr Ashie Moore as well as to score their political points for their paymasters, calling on the Ghanaians, particularly the rank and file of the NDC to treat the allegation as contempt.
He stressed that it was the public knowledge that former President Dramani Mahama has supported the delegates transportation but everybody received their shares of the cash from Mr Ashie Moore as it was stipulated in the distribution lists per delegate from the office of former President Dramani Mahama.
According to Mr. Aborbi-Ayittey, per the structure of the party, all the regions have campaign team of JDM, saying that in the Greater Accra Region, the campaign team of JDM was headed by Mr. Ashie Moore.
He mentioned that every activities that former President Dramani Mahama does through the regional and constituency branches, it passes through the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, saying that"there is no question about that."
Backing these claims, Mr Aborbi-Ayittey pointed out that it was clearly showed that the money resources from the office of JDM for any activity in the region would also surely or certainly passes through Mr.Ashie Moore.
"If these Greater Accra Regional Executives Committee of the NDC led by Tetteh Chaie were alluded to the fact that they weren't aware of disbursement of the JDM cash by Mr. Ashie Moore to the delegates for transportation purposes or if the executives claimed that they were not aware that the money was given to only Mr Ashie Moore, then l have problem with them. This is because these Greater Accra Regional executives of the NDC must be fair to the regional chairman and even, we, the constituency chairmen of the party in the region.
"This is because when the money came, they said the money was widrawn from the bank account of the region by Mr Ashie Moore together with the Greater Accra Regional Treasurer of the NDC, Mr. Mohammed Norga and that where the money to be distributed is not to be the issue of contention but whether the money was given to the constituency chairmen and the constituencies that JDM promised that should be the questions that these executives should be asking.
"However for that matter l can speak to it that when the money came and was ready for the constituency chairmen to receive, the good, proper and transparent things that Mr Ashie Moore put in place are that Mr Ashie Moore sent information to the various chairmen of the beneficiary constituencies in the region to come with their constituency treasurers or secretaries and that are what exactly we did to receive our share of the money for our delegates.
"The money was issued and we the constituency chairmen signed and witnessed by the treasurers or any constituency executive present so the money was paid per the JDM office calculation of the delegates in the various constituencies and measures were very appropriate for us," he explained.
He noted that if there were issues that some of the delegates in the constituencies of the region didn't received their monies, the best things that Tetteh Chaie and his followers to do was to find out from the chairmen of these particular constituencies.
He was of view that it would the best interest of the NDC for he disgruntled Tetteh Chaie and followers to take the trouble to check whether or not the chairmen of those constituencies from where the delegates are from before making the complain of not receiving their money should have received before running to the media to accuse Mr. Ashie Moore for embezzling of the cash meant for the delegates.
He noted that actions and inactions of Tetteh Chaie and followers to make such derogatory comment against his regional chairman completely amounted to the destruction of his reputation, hence their called on Tettteh Chaie to react his statement and apologize to Mr Ashie Moore.
