Frank Lampard has praised his side's performance against Aston Villa and revealed that he is not troubled about the scoreline because the table is ‘still tight’.

The Blues were held by Dean Smith’s side to 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge when El Ghazi’s header scratched Olivier Giroud’s opener to extend Aston Villa’s unbeaten league run to five.

Chelsea are sixth on the table, six points behind first-place Liverpool and a point adrift of Aston Villa who have two games to honour.

Despite their winless run which took a break when they defeated West Ham United last Monday, the manager does not see his side separated far from the leaders with a huge expectation of catching up sometime.

‘It’s a draw, against a good team, and the performance was good,’ said Lampard.

Everton vs Man City fixture postponed due to coronavirus

‘I thought we deserved to win the game. We came through a difficult patch knowing that we want to improve. We saw a lot of signs today in the attitude of the team, coming to play, without having the final bit in the final third.

‘It leaves us having to do more because the table’s still tight. We’ve had a funny patch, we’ve remained really close to the top of the league. Off the back of a really good run we’ve had a difficult little time and today I saw some really good signs that I liked.

Chelsea’s next fixture is against Manchester City on Saturday who had their game against Everton at the Goodison Park called off due to coronavirus.

City earlier had Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus isolated before the latest cases which led to an outright postponement of their Matchweek 15 fixture.

Regardless of the fixture pile-up, Lampard remains strong that health is key and his side will continue to prepare no matter the outcome.

"We’ll see what the position is," he told reporters. "It’s a key time and a rough time, and we felt that coming, with Tier 4 coming in and the surge in Covid. From our point of view, I will find out more over the next day or two to make sure it has to be safe for the two teams. If not the [Man City] game won’t go ahead.”
