Lagos is gridlocked after a market fire under a crucial bridge.

Lagos has been thrown into pandemonium by a fire that broke out beneath one of the city's main bridges.

The Eko Bridge, which connects Lagos Island to the mainland, has been closed to all traffic, resulting in gridlock.

The fire, which started in the early hours of Wednesday, was described as "disastrous" by the city's fire chief.

There have been no casualties reported.

The area under the bridge is home to hundreds of little stalls, many of which have been demolished.

According to reports, there has been merchandise looting and opportunistic robberies from cars stalled in traffic.
