Atletico Madrid followed their Champions League win over Liverpool with a 3-1 victory against Villarreal at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday evening.

Morale was high throughout the stadium after Tuesday's triumph and, with Diego Simeone watching on from the stands, the hosts bounced back from a slow start.

Javi Calleja's side opened the scoring when Paco Alcacer cut across the ball to fire it past Jan Oblak from the edge of the penalty area.

Atletico were almost level when Sime Vrsaljko's cross was met by Alvaro Morata's acrobatic effort, which was saved by Sergio Asenjo in goal.

The equaliser did come around five minutes before half time as Vrsaljko set up Angel Correa whose shirt found a way past the onrushing Asenjo.

Correa turned provider as Atletico took the lead midway through the second half, crossing the ball for Koke to head into the back of the net.

The Atletico captain was involved in the third 10 minutes later, with Joao Felix finishing off a dangerous move upon his return to the team.

The 20-year-old had missed the last four weeks with an ankle injury but came back to score his first league goal since September.
