Ben Chilwell’s deal is on, as Leicester seems to have found a replacement for the left-back.

The Daily Express reported on Thursday that the Foxes have identified Southampton defender, Ryan Bertrand as the replacement of the English man if he leaves for Chelsea.

Chilwell has been linked to the Blues and Manchester City for weeks now and a release clause of £42m is part of his contract according to the Telegraph when he signed a new deal at Leicester last October. The deal is set to expire in July 2024, which means Leicester is not in a haste to sell, and will only let go of the 23-year old for a reasonable fee.

With a summer spending spree reportedly on the cards for Frank Lampard to spend, the Blues seems to be embarking on a total overhaul ahead of next season after their principal agreement with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and their strong link with Bayern Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Chilwell has been involved in 36 games for the Foxes this season and has been remarkable hence his Chelsea’s solid association with the player.

Meanwhile, Bertrand has one year left on his contract with Southampton, and the newspaper reports that the Saints are willing to offer him a new deal to keep him at St Mary's.

The Foxes have a high chance of capturing Bertrand if they are able to offer Champions League football following their notable performance in the Premier League before the halt by the coronavirus pandemic.
