Kakum Forest Elephants Collapsing Marriages In Assin South
Farmers at Assin South District of the Central Region are counting their losses as elephants from the Kakum National Forest raided more than three acres of farmlands and destroyed crops estimated at GH¢50,000.
The affected farming communities include Assin Homaho, Abodweseso, Mpentemmua, Aboabou Camp, and Aworoso with crops ranging from maize, yam, cocoa, and cassava were all destroyed by the marauding elephants leaving the affected farmers in grief and wailing.
Some of the married women who have spent over 30 years in doing farming out of dismay said, they're leaving their marriages since all their 30 years of sweat had been wasted by the elephants.
They, however, appealed to benevolent organizations and well-meaning individuals to urgently come to their aid since it has badly affected their livelihoods
Meanwhile, the Assin South NADMO Director, Mr Emmanuel Kwabena Brewu confirmed the invasion to journaliss and assured the farmers of their optimum support.  He also reiterated efforts being taken to prevent the animals from destroying farms.
