Jurgen Klopp says the memory of Liverpool’s 7-2 loss to Aston Villa was abstracted by his player’s involvement with the National teams during the international break.

According to him, it was significant that majority of the players were engaged in their respective national teams to conquer the recollection which would not have been beneficial in the Reds pursuit to defend the Premier League title.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT Breakfast host Laura Woods, the German revealed that “In some respect, I like it more than losing 3-2, because it’s just more clear.

“We could have lost that night 3-2, and then we come home and the boys go to their national teams and we have to analyse – and that is it pretty much. But this is more useful.

“For me, it is very important that the boys don’t carry it around, because pretty much all of them had three games to play [during the international break].

“They are pretty intense games, important games for their countries, and you cannot do that when half of your brain is back at Liverpool. So we wanted them to focus on that.

Liverpool resumes the Premier League with a crunchy Merseyside derby with first placed Everton at Anfield on Saturday early kickoff.

Majority of Klopp’s men were in action during the break. With a day between the Reds game against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Klopp delights in his squad improving massively against their rivals on Saturday if they want to challenge for first place.

“I wrote all the things I thought about the game and around the game so we could finish it for the moment, but the challenge now is that they played the last [international] game on Wednesday and arrive here very tired on Thursday, and we have to try to help their recovery.

“Then we have one session on Friday and we play flying Everton.

“That is it, that is the situation. We cannot change that and we don’t want to change it. It is another game.”

The arrival of Sadio Mane and Thiago is also a boost for Liverpool after the pair missed the Aston Villa game due to coronavirus.
