Security and Criminal Intelligence Analyst, Samuel Nana Appiah Owusu has described the appointment of the New Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the president as an obvious choice.

According to Nana Appiah, COP George Akuffo Dampare is the Senior-most commissioner in the administration currently.

President Akufo-Addo has appointed the Commissioner of Police (COP) George Akuffo Dampare (PhD), to serve as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP). Mr Dampare is expected to assume office effective August 1, 2021.

He takes over from James Oppong-Boanuh who was appointed by President Akufo-Addo in October 2019.

A statement issued by the government and signed by the Director of Communication, Eugene Arhin, said James Oppong Boanuh is to proceed on terminal leave.

Samuel Nana Appiah Owusu added that the incoming IGP’s background with regards to finance, ICT, Operations and welfare makes him stand tall among other commissioners.

He also talked about the (COP) George Akuffo Dampare must do to be successful in his term of office.
