Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has claimed he took a gamble on himself by accepting the job at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino was appointed as the Blues’ permanent head coach last summer after he was sacked at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine, who was also linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United, admits he knew the Chelsea job would be “a massive challenge”.

He said: “I played with my reputation to come to Chelsea also, in a project that is to build a team with young, talented players with the potential to become top players.

“We knew that was a massive challenge but I want to give the team the tools to win games, believe in ourselves, and build a very good relationship”.

The win over United on Thursday took Chelsea up to 10th place on the table, two points behind seventh-placed West Ham with two games in hand.

Qualification for a European competition remains a possibility -- an FA Cup semifinal against Manchester City later this month offers an alternative route -- and Pochettino believes his side can make it with a perfect run-in, starting with Sunday's trip to rock bottom Sheffield United.
