The England team racially abused by Bulgaria

Bulgaria have been cuffed with a one-game stadium ban following racist chants against the three Lions of England in their Euro 2020 qualifier in Sofia.

England won the game by 6-0 on October 16, 2019 following a double halt of the game by the center referee.

The Bulgaria fans made Nazi salutes and targeted monkey noise at England’s black players; Raheem Sterling, Tyrone Mings and Marcus Rashford.

According to UEFA, its disciplinary panel have put Bulgaria on probation for two years and a repeat in offense will trigger a stadium closure for a second competitive game.

UEFA’s disciplinary code states that a team will be punished for a second offense with “one match played behind closed doors and a fine of 50,000 euros.”

Authorities in Bulgaria have so far identified 16 suspects and made 12 arrests after the England game.

Four supporters received fines and two-year bans, with others remaining under investigation.

Bulgaria’s next home game is against the Czech Republic on Nov. 17.
