I sold ‘akara’ with mum hoping rich men would give me money – Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy, a Nigerian producer and music executive born Michael Collins Ajereh, said that he peddled 'akara' with his mother in the hopes that wealthy men would drive up and give him money.

During his guest spot on the most recent episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, Don Jazzy made this statement.

I remember it like it was yesterday, he remarked. My mother and I used to sit on a bench in Ajegunle while frying akara (bean cakes), and any big men who passed by in a Peugeot 504 or Mercedes 230 or another vehicle would stop to buy akara.

The Mavin chief discussed his upbringing in Ajegunle, Nigeria, and how his exposure to hardship influenced his development as a person.
