Kuami Eugene has said that he will not stop doing highlife music for as long as he can.

He maintained that all other music categories in Ghana have come from the original highlife and even though the genre appears to be struggling, there are still people who love to listen to the original Ghanaian sound.

According to him, people should stop the notion that upcoming artists who venture into highlife will not succeed because he would not be where he is if he didn't go into highlife.

“I represent Highlife and that is how I feel. You know it’s Highlife Artiste of the Year and I’ve been waiting for it… Highlife made me who I am and thought me what I am today… it’s my basics and foundation,”

“When is Highlife going to die? It dies when everyone stops listening to it and there are people enjoying it… it's our music and not going anywhere"

He bagged nine nominations at the recently concluded Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, only to bag two awards in the end.

The highlife artiste was the winner of the Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in 2020 at the expense of Kofi Kinaata, Akwoaboah, Adina, Kumi Guitar, Dada Hafco and others.

This time he could only grab the Best Highlife Artiste of the Year Award.

He has now won the award three times in a row, as he first swept the award in 2018, then in 2019 and 2021.

The most prized award, the 'Artiste of the Year' plaque which he won in the previous edition was clinched by Gospel artiste Diana Hamilton.

A shocking turn of events as most entertainers felt the award belonged to Lynx Entertainment's KiDi.
