More than thousands of people were displaced for which eight of them nearly lost their lives after a heavy rainfall.

There was a three to four hours of downpour in some towns at Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

The floodwaters also destroyed vasts cash crops of the hundreds of farmers and rendering more people homeless, making lives uncomfortable in the various communities in Nkawkaw.

According to information gathered by Soireenews,  some places that were not prone to flooding had been occupied by heavy waters with it height an eyesore.

Places such as Asuogya, Obuasi, Achiase, Adoagiri, Timber market and other places all in Nkawkaw have recorded mass destruction following the early downpour between 4 and 9 am on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Some residents have lost their shelter, others experiencing mass destruction of their properties to the heavy rain.

Narrating their ordeals to Soireenews, some affected residents mentioned that this is not the first time flood had destroyed all their hard earn properties. They revealed that calls for the municipalilty to come to their aid have proven futile.

Speaking with the Director of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Alhaji, he said officials were directed to various places the moment they heard the news and claim the news team could not see them because they started from other affected end and are yet to reach where the reporters are.

He stated that the agency had called the MP of Nkawkaw, Hon. Joseph Frimpong to inform him about the incident that has happened.

On the issue of the flood, Mr Alhaji attributed it to the poor sanitation in various towns sighting how some people go to the extent of throwing refuse into gutters thereby choking the entrances.

He mentioned how the municipal leaders have failed to dredge those choked gutters in the area.

He indicated that the agency will take care of the displaced victims and therefore pleaded with individuals and other NGO's to come to their aid.
