Growing Tension And Frustration In Mepe Over Abandoned Akosombo Dam Resettlement Project

Amid growing frustration and tension, the government, through the Ministry of Works and Housing, has abandoned the resettlement housing project for the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage in the Mepe Traditional Area of the North Tongu District in the Volta Region

The concerned residents of Mepe cannot fathom why the government, through the Ministry of Works and Housing, abandoned the resettlement project at the footing stage after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

They demanded an explanation from the government and the Ministry of Works and Housing regarding the complete abandonment of the project while victims struggle for decent housing.

The lamented that thousands of flood victims still live in makeshift tents and structures following the Akosombo Dam spillage disaster.

 They noted that the former NPP government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Minister for Works and Housing, Honourable Oppong Nkrumah, officially cut the sod for the project.

They expected the current NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama to complete the project, but work remains halted.

Traditional landowners confirm the released land has no legal disputes and urge the government to send the contractor back to the site to finish the housing units.
