Mepe Queen Mother Marks Fifth Anniversary With Pupils And Commissions Water Facility For Roman Catholic Primary School

The Queen-Mother of the Adzigo Divisional Clan in Mepe Traditional Area of the Volta Region's North Tongu District, Mama Yawa Ayadugbe Dunenyo II, has personally built and donated a pipe-borne water facility to the Mepe Roman Catholic Basic Primary School to improve drinking water access for the students.

In addition to this laudable initiative, the queen mother has also funded the sewing of school uniforms for students in Mepe, contributing her quota to educational opportunities and youth development in the area.

Mama Yawa Ayadugbe Dunenyo II donated books to the pupils of seven local basic schools: the Dadome Roman Catholic Basic Primary, Dadome District Assembly Basic Primary, Mepe-Horsikofe, Mepe-Degormey, Holy Christ, Mepe Roman Catholic, and Presbyterian basic schools.

The Queen Mother presented charcoal irons to local apprentices learning dressmaking at the Fine Girl Shop, owned by Nutefeworla Francisca in the Mepe township.

The donation marked the fifth anniversary of her installation as the queen mother of the Agodzi-Samlafeme gate of Mepe.

Having lived near the school prior to her installation, the Queenmother was well aware of the severe drinking water challenges the students faced.

The Queenmother noticed that during break times, due to a shortage of drinking water in the classrooms, students would rush to nearby households to fetch water.

Flanked by the Chief of the Adzigo Clan, Togbe Kofi Asitoakor II, the Queen Mother explained that she felt compelled to solve these challenges by providing a reliable water source for the school.

Addressing the traditional office holders, religious figures, students, teachers, and participants—including members of the Mepe Reform Union (MRU)—Mama Yawa Ayadugbe Dunenyo II stated that, as a mother, she realized celebrating the fifth anniversary of her installation without the Mepe township benefiting from it would not be right.

The Queenmother asserted that while planning the anniversary, she thought about what she could do to bring development to Mepe to ensure her celebration would not be in vain.

She consulted Togbe Kofi Asitoakor II about building a pipe-borne water facility for the school, and he endorsed her decision to construct it.

Following this arrangement, the Queenmother stated that she contacted the headmaster of the school, Mr. Kwadzo Akaho, who welcomed the decision to build the facility for the school.

She stressed that today served as a great day to commission and hand over the water facility to the school's management, led by Mr. Kwadwo Akaho.

The Queenmother called on the students to study hard to pass, enabling them to pursue tertiary education and become responsible future leaders who will take over from the older generation in the Mepe Traditional Area.

"I am using this opportunity to encourage the students/pupils to study hard because academic learning opens up many opportunities.

"The youth in school must focus on their books so that when we grow old, we can hand over the tools of leadership to the younger generation," the Queenmother advised.

For his part, the Organizer of the Mepe Reform Union, Mr. Amegla Korkutse, expressed the group's profound appreciation to the Queenmother for building a water facility for the school.

Mr. Amegla stated that Mama Yawa Ayadugbe Dunenyo II had demonstrated a clear vision for the students of Mepe early on, even before she was installed as a Queenmother.

According to Mr. Amegla, her desire to transform the school's infrastructure was evident long before her installation.

He indicated that the Queenmother has always shown a deep love for the local children.

He noted that because she lives near the school, she used to express deep concern about the behavior and academic performance of some of the pupils.

Finally, he called on the Queenmother to continue her support for the school by constructing an ultra-modern borehole water facility.

He also urged Mama Yawa Ayadugbe Dunenyo II to help build a fence wall around the school to ensure the safety of the pupils.
