The Green Ghana program initiated by the government and several other investments by both government and other foreign agencies such as Form Ghana are under attack as the activities of Fulani herdsmen have succeeded in destroying this investment, the Chief of Berekum traditional area Daasebere Dr. Amankona Diawuo II has said.

The Green Ghana program is an initiative to reduce deforestation and restore degraded landscapes across the country.

The President last year launched the Green Ghana Project as a response to climate change and restores degraded lands.

A lot of trees were planted nationwide during the exercise which was led by President Akuffo Addo who planted moringa trees at the jubilee house.

According to Daasebere Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, the Fulani herdsmen have invaded the forest reserves and are destroying large hectors of land, food crops, and tree plantation government of Ghana has invested millions of cedis into.

He explained the destruction of tree saplings as a result of cattle grazing by the Fulani herdsmen constitutes a major drawback to the tree plantation development in Ghana.

Daasebere Dr. Amankona Diawuo II stressed that the destruction of tree plantations is not limited to the cattle trampling on and feeding on the saplings but also as a result of the forest fires created by these herdsmen in their desire to create a conducive environment for cattle ranching.

He called upon the Ghana Government to seriously tackle the “Fulani menace” as a matter of urgency if it wants its Forest Plantation Strategy to be successful since the main aim of the Fulani herdsmen is to convert forests into rangelands through repeated forest fires.
