The repercussions of galamsay activities beyond the damage that has cause the various water bodies destruction is an unpleasant situation which government needs to addressed.

The numerous pits created by this illegal activity is claiming lives of residents who live in these mining communities in some parts of the country.

It is on the back of this that a mining expert with Akonta Mining Company Ltd, Mr. Edward the Kwasi Akouko is urging government to expedite plans to reclaim lands being destroyed by galamsay activities.

Abandoned galamsey pits in the country have been a worry to residents living in most mining communities in the country since there have been several reports on how innocent Ghanaians have lost their lives as a repeat of these abandoned pits, apart from causing death, these pits have also become breeding grounds for mosquitos to cause a lot of more people.

In order to save the situation, the government of Ghana is in talks with the World Bank to access a loan to reclaim and cover all these pits but over some time now not even a single pit has been covered and Kwasiimed.

Mr. Edward kwasi Akuoko speaking with Sorienews Correspondent Opamago Paparichy has added his voice to the call that government should urgently fast-track the process to save Ghanaians from the dangers these pits are posing to their lies.

He explained that, there should be a policy in place to ensure that any mining company who mines at any community must be forced to cover and reclaim the land for future use

Speaking on the government's community mining project, he said is a good intervention but needs to be regularized and smacked not it still sums up to zero hence the government committee set to regularise galamsey activities should be up and doing.
