The Northern Regional chapter of organised labour over the weekends joined their colleagues to celebrate this year's Workers Day, a day set aside to congratulate and commend the general workforce of the country both formal and informal.

This years celebration was on was under the theme: 'Economic Delivery in the Era of Covid-19; the role of social partners.

Addressing the Unionised workers groups at the Tamale GNAT hall, the Northern Regional Chairperson of the Trades Union Congress-Ghana (TUC-GH) Mrs Rebecca Yankson on behalf of the union, thanked all their members for their dedication to duty and hard work.

She also urged her colleagues to continue to be committed to work, "ensure that our actions contribute to the collective goal of service and revenue generation. This includes avoiding lateness to work and increasing our daily productivity at the workplace".

Mrs Yankson used the occasion to commend the gallant health workers of the Region and Ghana at large for their relentless and gratifying hard work amidst the covid-19 pandemic.

"We workers gathered here and across the nation wish to acknowledge that, even though we know our nation's economy needs to recover, we as union workers are saying our pockets and bank accounts also need urgent recovery and among others".

The Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu who was the guest of honour thanked the entire worker's union in the Region for the dedicated and selfless service they having rendering to mother Ghana.

Alhaji Shani(Hon) urged the leadership of all labour unions to always use meaningful channels like the National labour union, the fair wages and salaries commission to address their grievances rather than resorting to strikes and demonstrations which most times, bring retrogression to the country economy.

The Minister assured that government is ever ready to work hand-in-hand with the labour unions to see to the full realisation of the country's potential and economic growth despite Covid-19.

Some of the workers were awarded citations, whilst others received television sets for diligent services rendered to the country.
