Government to spend over Ghc 521 million on upcoming Population and Housing Census

Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim said that conducting a census for that purpose necessitates the confidence of the population.

The Ghana Statistical Service has disclosed it intends to spend about GhC 521.3 million on the upcoming Population and Housing Census. 

Addressing Parliament on the upcoming exercise which is slated for the 28th of this month, Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim justified the budget with a projected population of 31.6 million.

“One of the African countries that did their Population and Housing Census in Kenya within the last three years with the population close to 48million and spent about 180million..., he added

“We’ve also benchmark our causing for 2021, with what happened in 2010 with the population of 24.6million persons in 2010, we spent 17millionUSD per person census of 2.89,” he stated

He also urged Members of Parliament to support their efforts aimed at depoliticizing the exercise.

His concern was premised by the constant attack on-field officials by persons who see the exercise as one for political purposes.

 He went on to say that conducting a census for that purpose necessitates the confidence of the population, which in this case is policymakers.
