Ghana @ 56 Watch: Increased Petroleum  Prices Are Killing Us  Ghana Under the Akufo -Addo led NPP Government'
An interesting video that goes viral on both social media platforms clearly showed how a man in his thirties is bitterly complaining about how Ghanaians are still experiencing high prices in petroleum products and foodstuff prices after the attainment of 65 years of independence.
The man in a video saw at the fuel pump station located at the Airport area in Accra demonstrated how he bought the petrol at a high price in the country under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Nana Add Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
"As lam talking now, the prices of petroleum products, have exceeded 2,040 Euro per a liter. This is the first time in my life l am hearing this because it never happened before in the twenty (20) years that l am leaving in this country," the man in a video stated.
Additionally, he said in the video that "I am coming to buy fuel with 50 Euro and we should covert it to see how many liters of the petrol am going to get into my car. You see the vendor sold the petrol to me at the high price of 24.75 liters with the cost of €50 UROS and l didn't even get 27 liters for a €50 UROS l used to buy the petrol.

"...so you see the hell the people of Ghana are now going through under the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo," he stressed.
He stated that "What is coming to this world if you have accepted the controversial proposed Electronic Transaction (E-Levy) taxation your plights would double and many cannot live in Ghana.
He stressed that "it is a time for all us to stand up firmly as the patriotic citizens to protest against the passage of the E-Levy because it is not for the Ghanaian economy."
He added that "If you sit down for the politicians to take advantage of the system by way of bringing policies that would only be in their interest, then we are good citizens.
He lamented that for the past two weeks the petrol price has been increased 35 percent and this has never happened before in Ghana."
He pointed out that the NPP and NDC are doing politics with the petroleum prices in Ghana and although during the NDC regime, the petroleum prices are not high but let all see the high increment of the petroleum prices under the government of the NPP.
He asserted that it is now time for all and sundry to raise to build Ghana if not we are going to go through this difficult in the hands of the greedy politicians.
The man is not the only very well-Ghanaians  Ghanaians who come publicly to complain about the high increment in the fuel prices of the country.
The Managing Director of Intercity STC Coaches Limited, Nana Akomea also revealed the extent to which fuel price increases are impacting the state-run transport outfit he heads.
According to him, the fuel price hikes which compute to about 42% over the last year have come without the commensurate increase in fares.
That situation coupled with the closure of borders since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he says, has thrown everything out of gear and made their operations ‘difficult.’
The Soireenews.com monitored comments he made on the Friday, October 22, 2021, edition of Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show.

“It is the fuel that is killing us… from October last year to September this year, just one year; a liter (of fuel) has gone up from 4 cedis, 77 pesewas to 6 cedis, 80 pesewas. That is about a 42% increase in one year, in fuel.
“Fares have gone up 13% so that immediately throws everything out… so it is difficult. It is difficult,” he told show host Randy Abbey.
He reiterated that Intercity has lost 2.4 million cedis in revenue every month on basis of the border closure. Added to the fuel situation and the fact that the company did not lay off any of its 750 workers, they have approached relevant agencies of government on ways that they could be supported in these hard times
Also joining the condemnation wango is the
Ketu North Member of Parliament, Mr. James Klutse Avedzi, ed that the government cannot blame the high fuel prices in the country on the ongoing geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine.
He indicated that the prices of fuel on the domestic market were already high before the outbreak of the warfare between Russia and Ukraine.
Mr. Avedzi said that “This government is trying to find an excuse that it is because of the war between Russia and Ukraine that is why the prices of fuel keep increasing.
“But you and I will agree that the prices of fuel started increasing not today. This year alone, prices have increased more than three or four times. The Russia-Ukraine crisis barely a week ago so you cannot within one week attribute everything to that crisis.”
Drivers, passengers cry over fuel price hikes
Some drivers and passengers on commercial vehicles have expressed displeasure over the recent increase in fuel prices.
They complained that the prices of fuel products had gone up twice in the past week and were troubled it would cause hardship for consumers.
However, some industry watchers such as the Africa Centre for Energy Policy(ACEP), the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, Ghana (COPEC), and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) maintain that the tall list of taxes on the country’s petroleum pricing was to blame.
They have, therefore, called for the abolition of many of the taxes which they describe as “nuisance levies”.
“We welcome the suspension of the stabilization and recovery levies on petrol, diesel, and LPG. But that is not enough. Those nuisance levies must be abolished to ease the economic pressures on the citizens.
“There are other levies in the petroleum price build-up that can be eliminated to give further respite to Ghanaians,” the TUC said in a recent position paper to the government.
