The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources who doubles as Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency, Honourable Samuel Abu Jinapor says ''Ghana is the leading producer of gold in Africa and the seat producer of gold in the whole world''. 

He made this comment when he met with the Western North Regional House of Chiefs led by the President of the National House of Chiefs who doubles as President of the Western North House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi.

Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor, addressing the participants says, 

''The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Akuffo Addo has not said he will cease gold mining in the country''. Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor added that gold is everywhere in Ghana even in the Northern part of Ghana.

He said, even the chiefs when attending any durbar dress in gold which should tell every Ghanaian that gold is abundant in Ghana.

Speaking with Soireenews reporter Nattybongo, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor further said, ''the president of Ghana wants every Ghanaian to use the right channel to mine the gold".

There should be a cooperative body with concessions that will guarantee them to do what is best as far as the mining of gold in Ghana is concerned.

He added that what H.E Nana Akuffo Addo is against most is the illegal mining in our forest, our various water bodies which in the short run pollutes the water bodies and destroys our forest reserves in Ghana.

Finally, the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi made a passionate appeal to the sector minister, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor to find a solution to the problem of galamseyers who are disturbing the miners with legal consertion in the region.

Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi again explained that the Western North region has all resources such as Gold, Cocoa, Timber, Bauxite, and many more needs development such as roads as he communicated to the president when he embarked on his tour within the region.
