Ghana Gov’t Extends Health workers’ Covid-19 Incentives for another 3 months

The incentive package for health workers at the forefront of the covid-19 fight in Ghana has been extended for three more months, the president Nana Akufo-Addo has announced.

President Nana Akufo-Addo during his 13th address to the nation on Sunday, June 28, 2020, said  all health workers in the country will continue to enjoy income-tax-free salaries for the months of July, August and September.

Additionally, frontline health workers will also continue to receive 50 percent of their salary as allowances for the same period.

The president mentioned that, the issues surrounding who qualifies as a “frontline health worker” have been resolved by stakeholders. He assured that, henceforth, health workers who fall under this category will receive this “special incentive” from June.

“I know the implementation of this for April, April May June, has been fraught with some challenges cause mainly by the protracted issue of who qualifies as a front line health worker in this context. I have however been assured that all the challenges have been resolved for payment to be affected by the end of June.” he said.

Nana Addo said the government is committed to ensuring that health workers are supported in the covid-19 fight.
