The two Canadians, Lauren Tilley and Bailey Chitty aged 19 and 20 were kidnapped at a golf club in the country’s second main city of Kumasi. The women had been volunteering for the charity Youth Challenge International, according to a police statement.

Court frees four suspects

Four out of eight suspects on trial for the kidnapping of two Canadian girls have bene freed by an Accra High Court.

Senior State Attorney, Ms Hilda Craig, told the Accra High Court on Friday morning that the Attorney-General decided to free the four; Seidu Abubakar alias Mba, Abdul Nasir, Safiano Abubakar, and Abdul Rahman Suleimana aka Wofa after reviewing the case docket following investigations.

 

 

The two Canadians, Lauren Tilley and Bailey Chitty aged 19 and 20 were kidnapped at a golf club in the country’s second main city of Kumasi. The women had been volunteering for the charity Youth Challenge International, according to a police statement. They were rescued by National Security operatives in the early hours of Wednesday 12 June, 2019.

Briefing the press after a sting operation by the Ghana Police Force and national security personnel rescued the girls, Oppong Nkrumah said, “No ransom was paid, no ransom was discussed in this matter."

"Our security agencies showed earlier intelligence report, did their work and then got to the conclusion of this matter. No ransom was paid between our security agencies and these persons.”
