Residents of Fooshegu in the Tamale South sub-metro of the Northern region have been compelled to drink contaminated water due to the lack of access to potable water in the community.

A dam sited in the Fooshegu community which serves over five communities and animals in the area is contaminated and can cause an outbreak of water-borne diseases.

When Soiree News visited the Fooshegu community, it was observed that residents fetch the dam water whiles animals walk into the dam to drink from it at the same time.

The residents told Soireenews that the water situation is worrying and because of how the dam is far from their various destinations, sometimes they feel lazy to even climb the hill to fetch the water.

The community and its surrounding villages all depend on this dam water, they drink the dam water in its raw state not because they enjoy it but they do not have any choice, there’s no potable water in the community, also they have never seen how piped water even flow.

They appealed to the government, NGOs, philanthropists to come to their aid.
