Dir. General of MTTD Examines Gridlocks at Nsutem-Nkawkaw Stretch of Accra-Kumasi Highway 

The Director-General of Motor Traffic Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service paid a visit to examined Nsutem to Nkawkaw Stretch of Accra Kumasi Highway over the recent traffic congestions at the place.

The Director-General of Motor Traffic Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Frederick Adu-Anim
yesterday, June 2, 2021, paid a visit to examined Nsutem to Nkawkaw Stretch of Accra Kumasi Highway over the recent traffic congestions at the place.

The recent traffic congestions, being experienced on weekends at the Nsutem to Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra to Kumasi Highway have compelled the Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Frederick Adu-Anim to visit the scenes on Wednesday.

The Director-General was accompanied by Eastern Regional Police Commander COP Edward Johnson Oyirifi- Akrofi, Deputy Regional Commander DCOP Peter Baba Atianak, Regional MTTD commanding officer, Chief Superintendent Stephen Ahiatafu, and various District and Divisional MTTD Commanders at their jurisdictions.

The Security entourage visited Nsutem, Osino, Anyinam, and Nkawkaw junction, a stretch of the Accra to Kumasi Highway to assessed the cause of recent gridlock on that portion of the road, especially during Fridays and Saturdays.

Briefing the media, the Director-General of MTTD COP Fredrick Adu Anim blamed the traffic congestion situation on many speed bumps constructed on that stretch of the road, and the increase in the volume of vehicles that ply the road on Fridays to Saturdays.

He opined, that while the Ghana Highway Authority is removing the speed ramps to replace them with rumble strips, MTTD is also augmented the human resource by deploying personnel onto that stretch of the road to help control the Traffic situation and check for indiscipline, particularly, by persons who unlawfully uses sirens without approvals by the designated authorities.

The Manager of maintenance at the Ghana Highway Authority in the Eastern Region, Engineer Ernest Osei Bonsu, on his part fumed, that speed ramps on the stretch will be replaced with rumble strips to facilitate the free flow movement of traffic by all road users.
