Farmers and Fulani Herdsmen rivalry: REGSEC moves to avert bloody clash at Nkoranza

Had it not been the timely intervention of the Bono East Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Ghana would have recorded a terrible clash between farmers in Nkoranza and Fulani herdsmen.

As the later are accused of allowing their cattle to destroy their farms and farmers in return killing their cattle.

This is as a result of a crunch meeting held at Ahyiayem between the two factions and the Bono East Regional Commands of Police, Military, Immigration, Fire Service as well as Officials from the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly to find lasting solutions to this seemingly unending problem of nomadic herdsmen pestering farmers all over Ghana.
Narrating their painful ordeals to Soiree Mews in an interview after the meeting, Nana Kwame Agyei Poku Chief of Ahyiayem and his People expressed disappointment in the way Fulani herdsmen recently brought the Police to arrest some people of the town deep in the night in a “Rambo Style” for killing their cattle after the farmers had reported countless times to the same Police about how cattle were destroying their farms but no action was taken against them.
Meanwhile, Hon. Issah Adams Assembly Member for Kenten Electoral Area in Techiman Municipality appealed to the Fulani herdsmen to always contact the chiefs and the farmers before entering into the various communities because the cattles destroy the farm produce of the farmers.
Mr. Ahmed Barry who is a national executive member for the National Fulani Association of Ghana apologized to the farmers for the unfortunate incident and pledged to sack cattle that have flooded the area in recent times to bring peace and unity between farmers and their Fulani brothers who have lived together with them over the years.
Finally, Hon. Daniel Yaw Owiredu MCE for Nkoranza on behalf of Bono East Regional Minister Hon. Kwasi Adu-Gyan pledged Government’s support for the farmers and reiterated their commitment to protect every life and property.
