Ethiopians line up at the Russian embassy to enlist in the military.

Following reports that soldiers were being recruited to engage in the Ukraine conflict, dozens of young Ethiopian men gathered at the Russian consulate in the city, of Addis Ababa, on Tuesday.

However, Maria Chernukhina, a spokesperson for the embassy, said no recruitment was taking place in Ethiopia.

She claimed that the throng was displaying support for Russia.

"A lot of people come to the embassy to express their support for Russia," she told the BBC.

"Some of them have expressed an interest in assisting us in any manner they can. However, we are not a staffing firm "Ms. Chernukhina went on to say.

Many Ethiopians visiting the embassy were observed with personal paperwork in their hands.

According to the BBC, a young man waiting at the gate is searching for a good wage as a soldier or to be hired in any other job available.

"I like Russia as well," he added.

Others said they'd heard rumors about Russia's high salary.

Ethiopia was one of the countries that did not attend a United Nations session to vote on a resolution concerning Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

South Africa was one of 17 African countries that refrained from voting.
