Murphy celebrate equalizer against Wolves for Newcastle.

Wolverhampton Wanderers missed the chance to enter the top four after a late Newcastle equalizer at the Molineux.

The home side took the lead in the final 10-minutes of the game with the hopes of entering into the top four but a late Murphy leveller cost Nuno Espirito Santos men.

It was a fairly even first half for both teams. Wolves started strongly but Newcastle soon found their rhythm as Daniel Podence and Raul Jimenez went closest for the home side.

Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin were given their hosts something to think about at the other end but it all resulted to nothing before the end of the first half.

Wolves continued to struggle in the second half seeing many of the ball but found it difficult to penetrate the Magpies defence, with the likes of Hendrick defensively-minded in midfield. They kept pushing for a goal but Newcastle got all of their outfield players and camped in their own half.

Traore’s presence in the second half was a danger; the winger kept dribbling and found a good space to make a cross in the 73-minute. He did the first well but his attempted cross was cleared away by Fraser.

He again pinged a cross into the area, which was nodded away, before Marcal sent the ball to Neto at the top of the area. He hammered an effort goalwards but it smacked into Hendrick's midriff before being clear.

Wolves finally broke through in the 80-minute through Jimenez.

Neto's out-swinging free-kick out on the left was nodded clear, but only as far as Jimenez, who took a stabilising touch and lashed beyond Darlow from range.

Three minutes to full time, Coady fouled Wilson on the edge of the box as a freekick was awarded in favour of Newcastle United.

Murphy whipped the ball round the wall and found the tightest of spaces between a line of old gold and Patricio's left post to level the scores and quench Wolves hopes of a win.

After three minutes of extra time, the game ended 1-1. Wolves leap to seventh in the table while Newcastle are 14th.
