Manchester City began the new Premier League season with a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux on Monday night.

The away victory means the Etihad club have now won 10 Premier League season-openers in a row, becoming the first team to achieve this in the competition.

Kevin De Bruyne’s penalty, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus were on the scoresheet for the Citizen as Raul Jimenez scored a consolation for the home side.

Nathan Ake made his debut for the former champions; the Dutchman partnered John Stones including with Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy in the full-back positions to form a defence with plenty of pace; Ferran Torres started from the bench.

Ruben Neves returned to the Wolves line-up in the only change from the team that beat Sheffield United on the opening weekend. He replaced Leander Dendoncker in midfield as Nuno Espirito Santo went with an attacking 3-4-3 formation with Adama Traore continuing at wing-back.

The visitors started very high and won a penalty in the 20-minute after Saiss' clumsy challenge on De Bruyne brought him to ground having received a ball from the right. No complaints when Andre Marriner pointed to the spot.

The Belgian made no mistake from the spot, although Patricio dived down to his left.

12 minutes later, Phil Foden doubled the lead. The young English lad started a good move, involved Jesus and finally to De Bruyne who threaded a lovely ball into Sterling on the left of the box, and his ball inside was fired in by Foden.

The home side did not threaten the visitors as they are known, giving City the intensity and energy to run the affair in the first half.

They came close in the 55-minute Traore initiated a move with Mendy backing off. When he reached the box he looked inside to Podence, who swivelled 180 degrees on it before firing just past the near post and into the stanchion behind the goal.

Jimenez gave the home side a lifeline to crawl back into the game when he finished an inviting cross into the area by Podence. It was an initial corner brilliantly transformed which led to Wolves goal.

The boys in yellow kept pressing City for the leveller but it turned against them in extra time when Gabriel Jesus put in a third.

De Bruyne won the ball back for his side and played in Jesus.

The Brazilian got a shot away and there was a bit of good fortune as it somehow found its way past Patricio and into the back of the net.
