Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta recorded the first victory of his reign with a 2-0 success against Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta made four changes from Sunday’s loss to Chelsea. Record signing Nicolas Pepe came in for his first start under the new boss, while Granit Xhaka returned to the midfield despite being linked with a move away from the club in January.

Sokratis replaced the injured Calum Chambers in defence, while Sead Kolasinac returned at left-back ahead of schedule, with Bukayo Saka dropping to the bench. Reiss Nelson and Mateo Guendouzi were the other players to drop out of the starting line-up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made three changes as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard came into the team in place Brandon Williams, Ashley Young and Andreas Pereira.

Paul Pogba, previously tipped to return to the squad for the game was not included.

The Gunners took the lead on eight minutes when Sead Kolasinac's cross found Nicolas Pepe, who swept the ball past David De Gea.

It comes from the left flank, where Kolasinac exchanged passes with Aubameyang and got to the byline. His cut-back was aimed towards Lacazette at the near post, but it deflected on to Pepe and he finished emphatically.

Pepe also hit the post before Sokratis doubled their lead three minutes before the break.

The Ivorian sent over a corner from the right. It was headed towards goal by Lacazette at the near post and De Gea could only parry it.

The loose ball bounced off Lindelof's back and Sokratis was there to smash it into the roof of the net. United had more possession in the second half and substitute Andreas Pereira hit the side-netting before Marcus Rashford fired narrowly over.
