Firmino scores second against Palace

It was a historic win for Liverpool against Crystal Palace in the early kickoff fixture to stretch their lead on top of the table.

The Reds beat Roy Hodgson’s side by 7-0, the heaviest home defeat for the Eagles.

Firmino and Salah grabbed a brace, with Minamino, Mane and Henderson all registering their names on the scoresheet as Klopp’s men majestically top the table for the third successive time at Christmas.

Minamino opened the scores in the third minute, the first Premier League of the Japanese in his 18th appearance for the Reds.

It was a lovely ball from Robertson into the area after Mane’s hard work to turn all too easily past Kouyate before tapping the ball through for Minamino. The latter outsmarted the challenge in the box while keeping the ball at his feet before sweeping home past Guaita with a lovely finish.

Palace came close on several occasions but had poor timing to punish Klopp’s side who seemed overpowered by the Palace midfielders in their quest to find a goal as a response.

He then played the ball in for Firmino inside the area, who had all the space in the world to set up his shot, before finishing low into the corner.

Jordan Henderson hit his first Premier League goal of the current campaign and the Reds fourth when he latched unto Trent’s ball and he curled a wonderful finish into the far corner from 20 yards out.

Firmino scored his second before Salah, brought from the bench for Mane added two to his name to sink the Eagles.

Crystal Palace are 12th, with 18 points.
