Tottenham have suffered their first defeat on MD1 of a top-flight season since 2015-16.

Jose Mourinho has been defeated on the opening matchday of a league campaign for the first time in his managerial career, 19th of such match.

 

 

His side, Spurs were beaten 1-0 by Everton on Sunday, kind courtesy of a Calvert-Lewin powerful header in the second half of the game.

Ancelotti handed debuts to new signings James Rodriguez, Allan, and Abdoulaye Doucoure as Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were named in the Spurs starting lineup.

 

 

The Toffees were carters of the game after an impressive start with passionate ball possessing.

The visitors were presented with a good opportunity in the early minutes when Davies played a slack pass inside and Richarlison was on to it with his pace.

He beat Alderweireld to the ball and rounded Hugo Lloris but the angle was really tight for his shot which went over the crossbar.

James Rodriguez engineered the midfield with his key passes, which posed more of a threat to Spurs whenever Richarlison and Calvert Lewin were spotted.

He came close in the 36-minute when Doucoure slid the ball into his path. The Colombian shifted the ball onto his left foot but missed the target in an attempt to find the left corner.

Everton's breakthrough came in the 55-minute when Digne produced a fabulous free-kick and it was met by Calvert-Lewin - he leaped above Dier and emphatically pounced home past Lloris.

It was the Toffees' first Premier League win in London in nine games, as they lie sixth on the Premier League table.
