The Electricity Company of Ghana has retrieved GH¢88,184.56 from customers in the Tema Region who engaged in the use of power illegally during the festive season.

A one week exercise was embarked by the company to clamp down on illegal connections in the Region during the festive season and with the help of the Tema Regional Police Command, the Revenue Protection Unit of the Tema Region of the ECG, 75,400kwh units were recovered which was equivalent to GH¢88,184.56.

The exercise was conducted in the four districts of the region, namely Nungua, Tema South, Tema North and Afienya districts.

According to the General Manager of the Region, Mr Joseph Mensah Forson, the exercise was purposely to audit the electricity connections of commercial premises including hotels, pub, drinking spots and shops.

Meter tampering, meter by pass and illegal self-connection were uncovered by the technical team who went on the operation
