The Paramount Chief of Ekumfi Traditional Area in the Central Region, Odeefo Akyin VIII, has expressed worry about the recent increase of the gruesome killings, gun shootings, insecurities and atrocities in the country which is mostly caused by the youth. 

Speaking in an interview Soireenews, Odeefo Akyin VIII, indicated that if chiefs had the powers to handle criminal cases, such atrocious acts would not surface in the lives of men. 

According to him, previously palaces had cells that detain criminals but democracy has washed away such beautiful common law.

He appealed that a second chamber must be built in Ghana's Parliament that will see chiefs involvement in governance and with that peace and development will prevail.

He also noted that interference in chieftaincy issues in the central region has done no good to the region but harm, indicating that the channel to select chiefs must be maintained to avoid chieftaincy disputes that hinder development.

He also advised the youth to desist from availing be used by greedy chiefs and other individuals.

Lastly, he told that the Peace in Ekumfi Essam, one of the communities under the Ekumfi Traditional Area is dwindling as some unscrupulous youths always cause havoc with unnecessary demonstrations.

He, therefore, called on Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare and the Central Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marygold Assan to come to their aid as the security situation in the various communities is very detrimental. 

Meanwhile the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also waded into the recent rise in crimes, murders, saying that the situation was alarming.

Against this background, Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa asked President Akufo-Addo to break his silence on the recent rise in crimes and gruesome murders.

The legislator described the issue as alarming and one that requires the attention of the president.

He asserted that if not addressed, the recent rise in murder cases and crime would affect the diplomatic efforts of the President abroad.

He said the recent travels by the President in wooing investors into Ghana would be thwarted by the recent criminal activities.

He appealed to the President to put Ghana first and deal with the situation.

“I sincerely hope President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recognizes that the alarming spate of insecurity, violent crimes & gruesome murders all over the country presents the singular most potent threat undermining all his recent diplomatic efforts abroad to attract investors, Let’s put Ghanaian lives first," he stressed.”
