Minister of Education, Honourable Yaw Osei Adutwum has affirmed his resolve to transform the sector. The move, according to him, is aimed at making Ghanaian learners compete with their competitors around the world on the same platform.

Honorable Adutwum disclosed at a press briefing in Accra assuring the general public of the government's resolve to replicate the same measures which were been taken under his leadership in the United States of America.

He added that the outstanding performance under his leadership in the States has merited his invitation by the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to replicate the same in Ghana. He revealed that the plan is to transform the sector to be technologically friendly.

The Minister was upbeat that Ghana's educational landscape will see a tremendous transformation. He said the measures taken by the ministry for that matter, the government will inure to the benefit of all. According to him, the introduction of the National Standardized Test(NST) for learners in primary 4 is a clear indication of the intended transformation.

He said the National Standardized Test (NST) showed that learners in primary 4 are performing at a 50% average. The outcome, he bemoaned and feared for the future of the country as a large majority of learners fell out of the pass mark indicating that most of them do not have the chance to progress to the next level.

Details of the NST overview showed that learners Below Basic have a score of 49% and below. It says at the Basic level, the score recorded a range between 50% to 65%. On proficiency in the English language, the score range recorded was 66% to 75% and the Advanced score of 80% and above was recorded. Out of a total of 14,883 primary schools that participated in the NST exercise a total of 431,206 candidates registered for both English Language and Mathematics comprising 220,290 males and 210,916 females. Sadly, he said out of 399,486 students who registered for the Mathematics examination, 31,720 were absent.

For the English language examination, he said while a total of 398,698 registered for the English examination, 32,508 were absent on the day of the examination. It also came to light that Ahafo topped with 67%. Followed by Bono 66,  North East 65%, Northern 65%, Ashanti 64%, Oti 63%, Central 61%, Savannah 61%, and Bono East 58%, amongst others. In proficiency, the NST showed that learners scored within a range of 66%to 79%.

In contrast, the usual southern dominance had been broken as learners in Ahafo topped with the highest scores of 67% and 58% for both English language and Mathematics respectively. Bono scored 66%, North East 65%, Northern 65%, Ashanti 64%, Oti 63%, Central 61%, Savannah 61%, Bono East 58%,  Greater Accra 56%, Upper East 51%, Upper West 50%, Eastern 41, Volta 34%, Western North 28%, and others.
